Air Venturi Avenge-X Classic, Wood Stock

After lots of research Black Friday Deals forced my hand to get a .22 Avenge X with a wooden stock as I plan to use it primarily from a bench or bipod. I had a Nikon 6 x18 40mm that has had thousands of heavy caliber rounds around so i slapped it on. Medium rings (1 inch high) were fine. I invested in the 10 for 10 test. The results show an average of 933 with a Standard of Deviation of 2 with an Extreme Spread of 5! Quite frankly can't get any better. It was tested with 18.13 Grain JSB pellets. I had a can of those exact ones in anticipation. The bottom line is that it puts them all through the same hole. At 25 and 50 yards it is impossible to shoot larger than a dime size 5 or 10 shot pattern. My 86 year old father sat down and after claiming he wasn't sure if he was hitting anything produced a 5 shot one raggedy hole in the bullseye.

The stock is...Interesting. I have shot metallic cartridges from a bench and everywhere else and have never encountered a stock like this. It is totally functional with a good length of pull and excellent cheek weld for me. I am 6 foot 2 and 180 pounds. The forend comes to a sharp edge on the bottom. It is just unusual, like it was based on the rifles from the original Planet of the Apes movie. AV needs to look at some centerfire benchrest guns to get design ideas. But not a dealbreaker at all....i chuckle every time i pick it up!

I purchased both 10 for 10 and the 24 hour test. Everything is perfect.

The look and feel of the gun is superb, I researched and watched plenty of videos before choosing the .22 classic tube version. I like the stock even though the wooden trigger guard has made me pause for reflection several times (it's growing on me). The action is smooth and the fill port location and cover are well done imo. I liked the gauges and ease of adjustment for the regulator also. It does tend to creep a little though. Is there an aftermarket option I wonder? So why the low stars? The gun won't hold air. There is a leak between the block and the receiver. I have tried (on the advice of pyramid air) to put 100 rounds through it and perhaps seat an o-ring or whatever. No luck. Pellets went all over the place lol It was on sale for $450. Thanksgiving time frame. So, it's not pyramid air's fault that I'm sitting here with an unusable gun. Holidays are holiday's. The AI chat was actually quite helpful. I'll be returning the gun in the next day or so. I'll update ASAP

Even though I paid for the 10 for $10, the gun still leaked. Is that pyramid air's fault? No. Could this headache have been prevented? Yes. Lesson learned, always pay for the 24 hr test. I don't need another double gun case to store so I didn't do the $20 sight in with a $70 case. Perhaps pyramid could include an overnight leak check with the 10 for $10. Certainly would not take any more labor.

But it! Don't let my experience change your mind. I've read hundreds of reviews and mine is the ONLY one that has had this issue from those reviews. If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have none so don't be dissuaded. It feels good and looks good and I hope soon to report that it shoots good too!

Mags more ease of use same as most I'm sure some one will come up w Mo better design

Wicked accurate at 40 yards (for rat control), compared to my GAMO bone collector. Got the .22 cal. with a .25 cal. moderator. With a bipod and Leapers UTG 4-16 x 44 scope, I'm a rat ninja! Must be sighted with every ammo change for spot-on groups.

Nothing I can think of.

Try the 1.3 bar regulator setting for 18.1 gr. pellets and adjust the trigger pull slightly. You will be impressed. Don't decrease regulator pressure until the pressure in the tube is bled off.

A little more color to the stain, a little darker with some grain. A better regulator like a Huma would make this rifle great

Follow the directions if your new to PCP's . I have 6 so this rifle was really easy to tune.

Rifle is smooth functioning, lever, trigger. Everything feels solidly assembled. Having the rail, 1/2-20 threads & gauges installed is a great plus! I haven't had a chance to shoot groups on paper yet so I didn't give it a rating but hopefully accuracy will be on par with most of the video reviews.

I would have preferred the front of the wood stock to be left wider at the bottom instead of tapered down. It is too narrow to grip.

I had to send back the first .25 cal Avenge-X that I received because the regulator had bad creep issues. Pyramyd responded quickly and got it exchanged for me.

so far everything but i have only had it out twice.

Very accurate, reasonably priced for all the features and attractive wood stock.

Regulator still creeps a bit but this may be to be expected at this price point.
