Air Venturi Avenge-XL PCP Air Rifle

Large air reservoir 5-shot MOA accuracy out of the box with JTS dead center 28 gr slugs. Easily accessible hammer spring.

Magazines would not fit 40gr ZAN or H&N slugs 40gr. ZAN slugs keyhole at 25 yds. Redesign the magazines to have thinner end cap to accommodate the longer slugs. Currently the 40gr slugs can only be loaded via shingle shot sled. Make the twist rate on the 22 cal barrels faster to stabilize the heavier slugs as the current twist causes keyholing with 40gr.

I went with this rifle to get something suitable for long range precision shooting without having to go with FX. I installed a vortex strike eagle 5-25x56 with the discoveryopt 0-90moa adjustable elevation scope rings. Initial two magazines with the ruger super point pellets left much to be desired on fault of the pellets while I was trying to get the rifle to print somewhere on paper while fihuring out how much of the 90moa on the adjustable scope rings I needed. And to get an idea of what the factory tune was. The 17gr super points were doing about 950 ish out of the box. I topped it off and with the same settings I zeroed using the 28.24 gr JTS slugs . After a few sighters I tried for a 5 round group and I had one ragged cluster just over the bullseye. I was optimistic so I tried the 40gr ZAN slugs. I realized I could not get them to load properly because of the internal length inside the magazines. 5 shot group single loading produced multiple keyholes.

This is a great PCP with a lot of features and power for a modest price as long as you stay within its limitations. This is a great entry level big bore with 130+ FPE of energy ready to smack down some medium game in the .30 cal version. I've been able to get the .22 up to 75 FPE and .25 up to nearly 90 FPE. It seems like they've simplified some things compared to the Avenge-X which should make the Avenge-XL more robust in regards to the seals.

The barrel is a bit disappointing in the .22 and .25. The twist rates just aren't fast enough to stabilize the heavy for caliber and heavy boat tailed slugs that would let this rifle take full advantage of the power it has on tap. The .22 can't stabilize anything above a 30gr slug and the .25 can do up to 40gr traditional slugs well but it can't handle anything with a boat tail unless it's lighter than 40gr. The barrel and shroud assembly could also use some stiffening up. The thin aluminum tube shroud isn't quite rigid enough to free float the barrel like it is. I've had some issues with POI shift and groups that were good, but not consistent independent of ammo. I made a barrel band and it tightened my groups right up. Before the barrel band, I was getting slugs randomly scattered around a slightly larger than a dime sized group at 35 yards. After the barrel band, they're all going into nearly the same hole or staying well within a dime at worst at 35 yards with the same tune.

This is a long and relatively heavy rifle making it difficult to use for anything more than shoot off of a bench. This isn't really a walking around in the woods gun, but you can make it work with a bit of effort. Mine measures in at just under 5 feet long with a moderator installed and the stock fully extended for my length of pull. My rifle weighs in at somewhere between 13 and 15 pounds with a 6x-24x scope, bipod, 700cc aftermarket bottle, and custom barrel band. It can be shot off the shoulder, but you will need to make it quick. The thread for the bottle is M18x1.5 and Tuxing makes a compatible 700cc bottle. This provides quite a few more shots per fill than the stock 500cc bottle at the cost of a bit more weight. It's a drop in replacement. I found that the trigger needed quite a bit of adjustment to make the gun a good shooter. It was a bit heavy and spongy, but a bit of adjustment made it much nicer.

I would clarify that it is not truly 100% left handed and cannot be converted. This is not a left handed or ambidextrous gun. only grip is LH. The lever action can not be changed or switchable. i feel this is a bit of deception when it indicates left hand grip. This should read. The grip is left handed and not the entire gun. . other air venturi are fully Left handed with the same verbiage very misleading. but my fault, i should have watched more utube videos to hear the real deal.

It was easy to adjust and configure for my use. It has a very wide range for power setting, and probably is capable of the highest KE for any .25 cal PCP gun available. It ships with the heavy hammer sppring for high power and slugs, but the ligher spring is included and simple to change. It's loud at high power but not bad when dialed back. I'm using it to control rats at about 20 yards and don't need to hit them that hard.... It's very accurate where I have it set.

Ship it with a 2.5mm ball end allen instead of the straight hex wrench. The ball end works better for the hammer spring adjustment.

Everything, out of the box 100 yards 1” group 1036FPS hades 44.75 gr pellets 0.30 caliber no wind and a led sled. Scoped with mantis 4x12-40 AO scope . Degas ,20 for20 and leak test purchased when ordered. Thing shoots fast and flat 50 yard shots are hole in hole or very near it. On a bipod no sled its accuracy depend on you, the gun shoots better than i do.buy it you will not regret this purchase

Maybe some barrel stiffeners,but it’s fine really. I could see it as an aftermarket purchase. Shoots incredible right out the box.

The XL is heavy but not overly cumbersome i like the weight,but prefer to prop against a tree or shooting stick when hunting, free hand shots are managble.

Big power and fairly accurate with the few slugs I've shot through it.

Hammer spring tensioner

The hammer spring adjuster on mine after about halfway in fails to engage the trigger sear, making the tensioner about useless for tuning

Wow, what a gun! Grant it's considered a budget air rifle, but the accuracy is unbelievable. No matter if i use heavy or lighter pellets it's on the money. My wife really likes shooting it too. I got mine in 30 cal then got the 22 kit. And it still hits with precision.

Don't like the buttstock. I would love to have it with a wood stock. The trigger, get rid of that thick thing that's on there and put an adjustable one on it. Other then that it all it needs to be. Be shooting mine at next year's Pyramyd Cup.

The rifle looks and feels good. Like the changeable caliber feature. Haven't tried shooting it yet.

The packaging needed some attention. Everything was rattling around inside the box. There was some marring on the regulator adjustment screw. Looked like someone had worked on this gun before.

There is no reason to have an M18 barrel thread for calibers 25 and under. You need to buy an expensive moderator just for this gun. I hope the company will provide a replacement for the M18 barrel thread with a standard half-20 thread for 25 and 22 calibers. The stock is also "XL" -- extra loose or wobbly, needing improvement. A folding stock would be nice since the gun is quite long.

This is definitely an entry-level bench gun, extra long and with good tunability. The long barrel makes it powerful and potentially more accurate than shorter barrels of the same kind. I have not fine tune it for the pellets I was shooting, so the 4 star rating may not be fair, but one thing is clear, it does not require much pressure to push the pellets at high speed.
