Nice balance. The scales are synthetic, very good simulation of shagreen, that offers a very good grip. The haft is comfortable. My only criticism is that the grip is slightly short for a saber grip for thrusting. The blade is shaving sharp (arm hair) but only just and there is discernible tooth to the edge.

Best "Woods Knife" I own. I have many 6", 7", 8", even 9" fixed blade knives for the great outdoors. Cold Steel Drop Forged Knife is everything I need in an outdoor carry knife. The thickness I like, extremely sharp & the tip of the point is absolutely the best for thrusting & poking a hole so the silky smooth razar sharp edge glides thru anything like butter. I highly recommend this Beefy Drop Forged Survivalist Knife. You can carry this Beast with confidence if you have the will power to Survive. It will serve you well. Now, I'm not a Batonist. If you have to baton on a knife that much, just bring a hachet & carry the Drop Forge Survivalist Knife on your belt. Don't be stupid, this is not a hachet, its a knife. Use it as such. Deer Man Out

Beautiful knife. Solid tool. The stippled grip is amazing. Just make sure to wear gloves when chopping away. The handle gets hot because it’s one solid piece of metal.

Good knife the right size good knife for the price

I highly recommend you get one of these Drop Forged Survivalist knives for the plain simple fact that it will last FOREVER. It is all one piece of 52100 High Carbon Steel and not as heavy as you would assume. Get one now before they're all gone.

All i can say is this is a well built beast. Its also razor sharp on arrival. Love this blade

I recently bought this knife via Amazon. Knife is very sharp right out of the box. But the sheath does not hold the knife in place when the sheath is turned upside down. My Cold Steel SRK 5 knife stays in place when I turn its sheath upside down. But the Drop Forged Survivalist sheath is not good and could be dangerous if the knife slips out.

In the pictures it looks black but is more of a blue gray in person... be aware of that. The blade is sharpened to where you can shave with it as well. However, a good chunk of the handle is metal and is possibly prone to slipping if your hands are sweaty and definitely being uncomfortable to handle in the cold, its a minor flaw and easy to fix by wrapping the handle.

The knife , I find great but the sheath , I would they dropped the ball. With the knife fully pushed in, then trying to draw it out is very awkward because of the flexing between the sheath and the belt loop. The only fix I see is to tie it off to my leg from lower part of sheath.

An amazing knife. The grip is outstanding, sandpaper texture absolutely locks your hand. If you’re prone to sweaty hands like I am, this knife is for you. Edge retention is amazing, have used it for hours at a time with no signs of rolling or glinting. Coating has also held up quite well. I am a bit disappointed with the advertised weight of 18.3 oz, I assume that includes the sheath. It’s 14 oz. Was looking for something BEEFY to improve/replace my current wood harvester. While being a bit more comfortable in the hand, it doesn’t pack the same punch, mainly due to the balancing. Overall still an amazing knife, it batons like a dream and absolutely glides through smaller branches. Would highly recommend this piece for anyone who likes digging through deadwood to make fires, particularly in colder weather. I enjoy felling dying/dead trees without an axe, and this does the job marvelously. It won’t spark a flint, the coating makes the spine smooth but in a pinch you can use the real edge. The real calling card of this knife is the smooth swing, it feels very controlled. The balancing is amazing, for a somewhat heavier knife it feels very light in the hand. Not a Bowie by any means, but it chops well enough that you won’t notice. I was pleasantly surprised with how little fatigue I felt after stocking up the campfire. It absolutely eats even tougher woods, goes through oak branches in 3-5 swings for me. The one piece construction also makes pommel strikes very satisfying, pine snaps off if you look at one. While a bit lighter than I’d hoped, it still has a good spot in my collection. Cold Steel never misses. I’d recommend this and the Leatherneck Bowie for anyone looking for some reliable deep woods demolition. Pacman out :)
