Description
The FX Halo .30 Caliber Hollowpoint Slugs are designed and optimized to shoot accurately from a variety of different barrels. They feature a large 4mm hollowpoint that consistently expands upon impact for excellent energy transfer. They weigh 46 grains and can shoot tight groups at distance thanks to a higher ballistic coefficient compared to pellets. Each box comes with 154 slugs that are ideal for pest control, small game hunting, or target practice.

4 of 4 FX Halo Slugs, .30 Cal Reviews
I shot these in a FX Impact Compact going at 820 fps at 45 yards and three out of the five shots literally went into the same hole with the other two almost touching. That shows you don't need a lot of speed with these slugs. Then I set-up a block of ballistic gel at the same distance and shot two rounds into it and both slugs perfectly mushroomed to over .50". Once again showing great performance. I will use these slugs for grey squirrel hunting and small game. For me the cost of these slugs will limit their use to lower volume hunting as oppose to high volume pesting.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe cost of these slugs are a little high. Since these slugs don't appear to be as hard to shoot accurately as other slugs I hope they will be coming out in other calibers.
These things are accurate and like to go fast. Explosive on game, at 970 fps from my M4 Impact I hit a sparrow at 35 yards and it was vaporized upon impact !

A quick follow up to my first review. Accuracy at 100 yards I'd rate as excellent not sub moa but 1.5 inches which is great for a slug with a cavernous hollowpoint The impact on game is unparalleled. Have weighed over 100 slugs and weight is spot on so extremely well made slug.
Things I Would Have ChangedMore slugs for the $.
What Others Should KnowShoots very well at different speeds. Good groups at 900 fps all the way up to 1050 fps in my Tungsten hammered 800mm Impact. I wrote this second review so people know you don't need a cannon powered PCP to shoot these accurately as at 900 fps they were very accurate. Shot them in 4 different barrel lengths 500mm, 600mm, 700 and 800mm and slug worked very well in all.

Design/idea of the slug. Deep and wide hollow point mean to expand and dump all of its energy.
Things I Would Have Changed* Fouling - It is an incredibly dirty round. It fouled up my gun in about 100 shots, maybe less. I don't know the quality of the lead but it leaves a thin film of lead on your fingers just from handling them * Does not expand - Good idea but poorly executed. It does not expand but rather, it explodes into bits, like a typical frangible ball round. This needs 900+ fps to be stable but at that speed the force upon impact and entry shreds the slug into pieces. If you're shooting pigeons, squirrels, or anything of the same size, the fragments will over penetrate.
What Others Should KnowNice looking case but stupid idea. Annoying to get the rounds out. For many decades the hollow point design has not deviated much; It is tried and true. The hollow points across many different calibers and ammo types are small and shallow - so it doesn't shred itself to pieces and expand properly. This round tried to do something new but failed at its original idea and instead becomes a frangible round.
