This Magpul X-22 Backpacker Optic Mount is constructed from black anodized aluminum specifically for Ruger 10/22 Takedown models equipped with the X-22 Backpacker stock. Measuring 6.75 in length, 3 in width, and 1.73 in height with a lightweight 0.18 lb profile, it mounts directly to the barrel block. Great idea. Solves a big problem the 10/22 takedown has. But it would actually work if they sent out the correct screws. The product needs flat head self centering screws that won't let their product move around instead of the panhead flat factory ones. Unfortunately, these screws are hard to find. If they were to add one more slot, they would give you the ability to mount a lot more optics. A few of the ones that I want would hang over.
The Hunter X-22 Backpacker Optic Mount is a fantastic upgrade. It’s solid, lightweight, and locks up perfectly with the takedown system. Installation was simple, and the optic stays zeroed even after repeated disassembly. If you want a reliable, well-designed mount for your Backpacker stock, this one is definitely worth it.
This component makes sense for the X-22 Backpacker, and is specific to that version of the Ruger 10/22. However, for a component that is proprietary to the X-22, it’s remarkable that Magpul hasn’t bothered to update the mount to actually fit the Williams rear sight that currently comes standard from Ruger on the X-22. Granted, the fitment issues are trivial and can be addressed by adding a tiny groove to the mount that would accommodate the tip of the rear Williams sight. It just seems a bit careless on Magpul’s part to have allowed this useful component to be manufactured in a way that does not fit the current version of the Ruger Backpacker. Magpul, please make the update.

Works perfectly on my 10/22 takedown, didn't have issues installing since I did what any normal adult would do and used some deductive reasoning to determine that I'd be replacing the locking block and simply followed factory instructions to do that. The only issue is that there are not enough picatinny slots for anything other than a single-screw optic mount. This means that if you wanted to do a scout-style optic of a low variable or fixed magnification, you cannot mount it to the barrel for the guaranteed zero. Please Magpul, just add an inch or so of rail space so I can mount a Primary Arms micro prism. Also of note, this only fits the standard barrel profile and you will have to permanently fold down your fixed rear sight. Just install optic height tech sights if you want to cowitness irons, they're way better than the factory sights anyway.
Well built mount. But does not fit heavy barrels. There is a step in the factory mount for the larger barrels. Not in this one. And the screws that came from Ruger the heads are to large in diameter to fit in this. Would have been nice to know this before hand.
Doesn’t include instructions. Doesn’t include a tool to take apart the mount and the screw is a non-standard size. Doesn’t actually fit on the newer models of the 10/22 as you have to remove the rear sight to put it on. The idea is good, however the execution is awful.
Works great doesn’t obscure the factory sights and lockup for the take down is still firm
Great addition to the Backpacker solution. Now I just have to figure out the best scope to fit it.
