Description
The Athlon Optics 4.5-29x56 Cronus BTR Gen2 Rifle Scope offers updated technology compared to previous scopes. It uses a 34mm aircraft-grade aluminum one piece tube that is heat-treated for additional durability, as well as a 56mm objective lens that delivers crisp views for situations where precision is paramount, such as PRS shooting.
The scope is shockproof, waterproof, and argon purged for enhanced fogproofing, so it is reliable and works well in a variety of conditions. In addition, it utilizes XPL protective coating on its advanced fully-multicoated lenses with UHD glass to provide superb results with very low dispersion even in low light situations or inclement weather.
The Athlon Optics 4.5-29x56 Cronus BTR Gen2 uses the updated precision zero stop system with a hard stop, and upgraded stainless steel components in the turrets with well-defined clicks that can be felt and heard. The turrets are exposed, and the elevation turret adjusts in a range of 32 MIL, and the windage turret adjusts in a range of 18 MIL, both using .1 MIL increments and 10 MIL per revolution.
The APRS1 FFP (First Focal Plane) MIL reticle utilizes etched glass and a variety of dots and hash marks to make aiming simple and fast, allowing excellent outcomes for target shooting and hunting. It also has illumination that can be activated in multiple levels of brightness for added visibility against dark targets.

10 of 12 Athlon Optics 4.5-29x56 Cronus BTR Reviews

The optical quality and performance of the glass in this scope punches well above its weight and price. The clarity and light transmission are superb and the reticle is extremely clear. I appreciate the 34mm main tube as it works well with almost all of the industry one piece mounts and appears to be very well built. The only flaw I see with this scope is the turrets. The turrets appear to track well and didn't have any tracking errors, but the turrets themselves are very tight and the tactile clicks are so closely spaced they just don't flow very well when you are rapidly adjusting elevation and windage. The numbers and hashes could be more prominent on the turret and this is one of the first things you will want to fix (Get some IDTS tape for the elevation and windage). Overall this is a solid performer and with some minor tweaks this could be a class winning scope.

This is my third Athlon scope and the reason I keep coming back is the quality of the glass at this price point. I have used these in everything from desert sun to forest shadows to low light at dusk and the glass is always crisp an clear. Of course all scopes experience some degradation at the upper end of the magnification range, I find Athlon's optics keep this to a minimum. I would recommend this scope to anyone who is looking for a good scope at a great price.

This scope now sits on two long range student rifles. - Clarity of the glass is very good. Allowing shooters to see sharp detail at up to 1200 yards (furthest distance tested) and track impacts on steel. At the highest end of magnification the focus can become finicky and the eyebox becomes tighter, but definitely still useful. - Tracking is as good as any other scope I've ever used including far more expensive ones. - Turrets, very tactile and audible clicks. Numbering is a little small but definitely usable. - Reticle, I now own this in both MOA and MIL reticle in both is very useful. Lots of data but not as crowded as some others a very useable happy medium. - Weight, it's a tank! However, that weight seems to be directly related to this scopes durability... I've beat on these scopes and they have taken it without ever losing zero. Excellent scope even at full price it's a solid deal.

Although it's a little on the heavy side, it's a nice optic that gets the job done

This is a great scope with very clear glass and solid and precise turrets. I have owned several of these and they are rock solid and on par with scopes costing 2-3 times as much.

I one on a precision 22 lr and the short focus is great. Another will go on an MPA 6.5 CM. I don't see anything I don't like. The illuminated reticle is handy, too. Pair it with the Athlon App. It's not the most expensive of it's type, but it doesn't seem to lack anything. I'm very satisfied. As I'm typing I'm getting prompts: "Is it better for a beginner or and expert?": If you're new to setting up a scope, plan to take your time, and get a good mount. Be patient setting your zero, but it's not too tricky.

Great optic. Clear glass, good light transmission. Reticle seems good so far with the time I have with it. Very positive, tactile and audible clicks on the turrets. I love that in between every brightness setting turns the reticle off. The eyebox seems a little tight. Not a huge deal if you're used to it, for me it wasn't a big issue. It's very noticeable on the top end of the range. But for the price it's more than acceptable.

This scooe is awesome! First day shooting over 300 yards and I was banging steel out to 700+ with no problem on 10-12 power. The quality of glass and 34mm tube make it a treat to shoot, and all the turrets and zoom/parallax knobs are great. Tracks well too. Highly recommend

This is a primo optic for the money. Excellent clarity edge to edge. I was hitting 12” steel plates at 700 yards with ease!!! This scope mounted up on my Tikka .300 win mag with no problems. I will be buying more Atlon scopes in future. I would not hesitate to recommend this scope to anyone. If you are looking for a great scope for agreat price , look no further than Athlon. Great company to work with, thanks, Joe R

I wasnt sure about trying an Athlon scope. I was a little hesitant. I have to say, I was more than surprised at the quality of glass, nice turrets with strong, audible clicks. The reticle is a breeze to actually use hold over points without any illumination. I do own Nightforce NX8's and Atacr's, Zeiss, Steiner, Vortex from PST- Razors, Swarovski, and Leupolds up to Mark 5 and VX6's. I would not hesitate to buy another. I did. The Cronus 4.5-29 is an all-around great scope for hunting or target. I'm looking at a thermal from them now. Great job on the Cronus. Solid 9.5 actually with a 12 for value. I'll add a picture shortly.
