SOG Ultra XR - Carbon and Gold

he SOG Ultra XR - Carbon & Gold completely changed the way I think about everyday carry knives. I’ve owned plenty of knives over the years, but this was the first one I actually carried every single day without fail — mainly because of how unbelievably light and slim it is. Half the time I forget it’s even in my pocket, which is probably the highest compliment you can give an EDC knife. The design is what really sold me. The carbon fiber and gold accents give it a clean, modern look that feels more refined than tactical. It disappears in dress pants just as easily as jeans, and the deep carry clip keeps it low-profile. Despite the minimalist weight, it still feels solid and capable in hand. The XR lock is smooth and addictive to use, and deployment is fast and reliable. It’s one of those knives you find yourself flipping open constantly just because it feels so good mechanically. What says the most about this knife is that when I thought I lost mine for a couple of weeks, I immediately bought another one without hesitation. Then, of course, I found the original. Instead of regretting it, I was honestly psyched — now I have two of them. That probably tells you everything you need to know.

I own around 70 knives of varying types and quality. They range from 440c to CPM-M4 (the most expensive of my knives). The SOG Ultra XR is only my second CPM S35VN. I could not be happier with this edc. While I change up my carry, this is my current favorite. Every guy ought to need a knife on a daily basis. I have a white collar job and the extraordinarily light weight, ergonomics, and quality of this knife all make it a perfect edc.

This is my third time purchasing this knife.it is so light weight for an every day carry. The blade holds its edge great. I would highly recommend! You won't be disappointed.

Love this knife. Light weight and sharp AF. I lose it all the time because it’s so light I forget it’s there. Very sharp, and easy to open and close! I liked my original so much I bought another one!

Super light weight. Too light actually. It needs some type of metal stiffener under the thin sheet of carbon fiber that it uses as a handle. I'm going to break it at some point. Not intentionally of course.

superb craftsmanship. fits the role - the golden knife that doubles as a money clip. light as a feather. you will forget it is there. worth every penny

Nice, thin, light! Great look, great quality materials used! Slight bit of vertical blade play. The action isn’t great, but overall I like this knife!

Its fine. Clip bends easily and the blade is not the sharpest. Lock is tight, very light. Good knife but maybe a bit overpriced.

Great small knife/steel the price offered at Christmas sale was unbelievable. Bought as a gift for my brother in law, will go great with the carbon and gold terminus I gave him last year

I really do want to like this knife. It's super compact, lightweight and the blade has been good so far. But just like other carbon fiber scaled SOG knives I have and used, the action isn't smooth at all. I looked up reviews through forums to see maybe if I was doing something wrong, but the sentiment was the same for a lot of people. While others have no issues with being able to thumb flick or reverse flick this knife, I legit can't. The action is so sticky that the only way I can deploy the knife is if it's opened the "slower" way with the thumb action or with two hands. I was hoping that it'd be smooth enough to be able to open a couple of different ways, but it's not the case. And because it doesn't open smooth (like my AltairXR), even trying to close it one handed with the lock release doesn't happen unless I put some force behind it. Hopefully it breaks in with time, but I've been fidgeting with it for hours and it's still the same. Unfortunate.
