- Steel Family: High Carbon Steels
Hungary by virtue of its position on the world map is a country that straddles the cultural influence of both the East and the West. This influence is, of course, directly echoed in Hungarian weapons. The Hungarian Saber is primarily a cutting, slashing weapon mostly used from horseback although thrusting with it on foot was not unknown. The blade of our saber is made from 1055 high carbon steel with a hard spring temper. It has a hatchet point making it wider at the tip or point than at the guard. The guard of our saber has very wide sturdy quillons. The wider quillons offer greater protection to the hand and forearm. Also because of their greater width, a skilled swordsman can catch a blow aimed at his hand, wrist, or forearms with a minor twist of his wrist as the long quillons cover a lot of real estate and minimal movement by the defender is all that is required to block the path of an oncoming blade. The leather scabbard is, in a word, gorgeous. Its fittings are attractively arranged and provide a light, bright contrast to its black leather base.

I'm more into firearms than swords but I've been looking at this sword for years probably 5. So for Christmas I took the chance and ordered it it is exceeded all my expectations it's magnificent workmanship and it looks great on the wall next to my rifles. It's far lighter and handier than I ever thought it would be even my wife is in love with it.

It just got here a week ago. I was impressed how well made it was, and lighter than it looks. It came with a sharp edge but could be sharper , no problem tho . Very happy with my purchase and at good price overall very nicely made!

Flexible blade. Not as staunch in its blade profile as expected but happy overall with the product. Came sharp and well fitted hilt, butt cap, and etching was clean. The scabbard was also well made and fittings clean. Very satisfied and looking forward to an Emperor series to join the collection soon!

Lighter than it looks so much faster. Great sword for those who study Eastern Europe styles.

Overall the saber feels great and I have no regrets buying it. Solid, sturdy, and exactly what I wanted. My only 2 issues is that the material the handle is wrapped in is relatively thin, and some of it did start pulling away from stitching. Other than that the balance point feels too far forward, roughly 2 to 3 inches from the hilt which can make it a little unwieldy but nothing seriously detrimental. I am very happy with the product and it will be proudly displayed on my wall !!

Beautiful craftsmanship, balance and finish. I’ve been waiting for this for an entire pandemic.

I actually practice a Hungarian Hussar Lineage and this blade is surprisingly good for the price. The Balance point could do with being possibly being slightly more forwards (maybe half an inch) Hungarians generally preferred sabers with a more forwards balance point on them as opposed to their western counterparts. I wish the yelman were sharpened as Hungarian saber-play makes very liberal use of false edge strikes, but thats nothing that a couple hours with a grinding wheel couldn't fix. The blade itself is Wonderful crafted with a mirror finish (perfect) and is actually incredibly flexible (this is good because its harder for Grug to break). Its such good quality that I have actually considered buying another specifically to grind the edge off, clip the point and then use it as a sparring saber in HEMA fencing. My real complaints about the weapon is the grip. I have somewhat small hands and this grip is very broad, not so much as to be unusable, but enough that I sometimes have to modify my grip beyond what I like doing. It comes with a screwed-in decorative stud in the midpoint of the grip, and it is genuinely awful, it just unscrews however so I did that and tossed it. Finally the pommel has the really aggressive ridge that I am not at all a fan of right before the pinky hook, its fine with gloves on, but it can be very uncomfortable with bare hands. The Scabbard is very passable and at this price range is a great bonus addition. the one complaint about it i do Have is that it is that the lugs on the hilt don't really interface with the slots on the scabbard particularly well. But again at this price range having a scabbard at all is great. the engraving on the cross is nice and the etching of a decapitated Ottoman is a nice touch. All and all, when you consider that this is a mass market replica sword, with a scabbard, this is a very good piece. Having held many other Cold Steel sword-like objects that they make, and actual antique sabers, this is probably the most accurate thing that they have ever made. An easy 5 star recommend for anyone interested in Central/eastern European swords.
