The 16" American hickory handle offers exceptional balance during target practice sessions or serious competition. The head weight is 21oz and the overall weight is 31oz. For those wanting the convenience of a quick-change handle our patent pending locking mechanism allows you to to change a worn or damaged handle by loosening two bolts, slipping out the worn handle and exchanging it for a new one. Now you can change your handle and be throwing again in under 2 minutes.

Fun axe. But the point of this is easy handle replacement. . . If you don’t want that feature - you can pay less for a different axe. Unfortunately I have watched this site for replacement handles to come in stock for nearly a year. They are never in stock. Wish I had just bought their regular handled ones.
two stars because it is a great thrower and easy for beginners to stick it. However, like so many other reviewers, the handle split up near the shim, then completely broke off near the head. Since this is such a common problem, until Cold Steel (from which I have bought several other throwing and utile implements), I will not be ordering any more until the light bulb comes on and CS makes replacement handles for this particular axe.......especially relevant given the growing popularity of axe throwing. I throw both axes and various fixed blades, as well as instructing proper mechanics for success.

Got 2 of them for Christmas. Lot’s of fun. Solid…but…the handles are specific to the professional model axe. Cold Steel doesn’t sell the replacement handles and they will break. Also…so far Cold Steel doesn’t seem concerned about the many people that are looking for replacement handles. Until this issue is resolved, I WOULD NOT recommend.
Axe was great right out of the box. Feels great in the hand, and wants to be thrown. I love the ability to configure it or replace handles so easily. It could use a little bit of sharpening out of the box for some denser targets or range use, but is great nonetheless!
Handle broke on 2nd throw. Called the company for a replacement handle and no replacements are offered.
