10 of 15 Frankford Universal Bullet Seating Die Reviews

I have used this on 223 rem, 243 win, 260 rem and 308 win. It works well BUT....seating depth is not consistent. The 308 was the best and 223 was the worst. I think in an effort to reduce parts required for a universal seating die, FA went too far. In the case of the 223, the seating stem contacts at the ogive location of a 17, not a 223. With all major match bullets, the bullet base to ogive dimension is very consistent within a lot. However, I have found the bullet base to other ogives (eg 17) can vary by up to .004". This is pretty much the max variation I saw in the CBTO measurements of the loaded ammo. This could be addressed by offering caliber specific seating stems, but that would be far more parts to manufacture. Perhaps some machine shop could start making these aftermarket? I work around this by seating to a depth ~.010" longer than desired, measuring and adjusting the die for each round. To me, this is worth it for the advantage of a universal micrometer die. I loaded some 260 with this to compare to the Redding competition seater and saw no noticeable change in runout (0.000-0.0015), so I do not think this will be an issue. Finally, I LOVE the drop through bullet feature. Especially in 223, no more pinched fingers! To FA, I would ask that you develop and sell caliber specific seating stems. To other reloaders, I would say buy it, understand the limitations and enjoy it for what it is! Thanks, Nick

When you spend all that time processing brass you want a consistent seating depth. I wasn’t getting that with my other dies and it was frustrating. With this seating die I have solved the problem. Happy and would recommend it.

I have used this die on three different calibers so far and col has been consistent, I love this die seating die.

Purchased this die set appx 8 months ago. Used different seating dies in the past with collar type bullet seaters. Never had good results so I was doubtful of this die only I needed one for my 30/378 and a few other cartridges I had that the seater dies I had were lacking results. Boy was I pleased when I ran my seated rounds over my run-out gauge. With good cases my run-out was between .0000 and .0015. As good as any comp seater die I have.

Have not used it on all calibers yet but am very happy so far. I like being able to place bullet in slot knowing it will align itself perfectly in the case mouth. A big deal with my arthritic fingers. Can use with seven different cartridges.

I really do love this seating die for use on longer cases, but I really wish there was one for shorter cases such as 6mm ARC, .308 etc. And maybe one for pistol sizes.

Bought this die during Christmas of 2020. And hadn't touched it due to my family and I renovating a house. Now that I have set up my bench I went to open up the die and put it to good use. Problem is the lock ring screw that come on the die was so tight is had crushed the threads on the die. I can't even remove the lock ring.

Just bought this and honestly why use any other seater from this point forward it's well built and feels expensive due to the quality of the micrometer movement. It's smooth yet firm as you rotate the micrometer head and stays exactly where you leave it. My only complaint is that on their description it doesn't tell you the .308 die is included it's just preloaded in the die. Hopefully they can get their website guy to add that real quick. I only found out because I called and asked and the guy on the phone was extremely helpful and was like yeah I'm holding it in my hand it definitely comes preloaded in the die.

I really want to give 5 stars but I can’t, seating depth is all over the place. I’ve double check and double checked everything and I can not get it to seat consistently. Might seat 2-5 good then way off. Seat a few more boom off again. Not sure if mine is flawed or not. The idea is there but the consistency it just not.

Frankford Arsenal quality, multicaliber, plus 3 different stems at acceptable price: good. But, no one noticed that the numbering on cap is ... backward? Example: if you read 4 on the scale and you turn the cap 5 marks counterclockwise, increasing high of 0.005" on the scale (4 + 0.005"), you should read, on the cap, "5", ... not "45" !
